Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoid Evaluation and Treatment at the GastroEnterology Center

Hemorrhoids can be an embarrassing and uncomfortable health issue, but also a very common one. Our team at The GastroEnterology Center put patients at ease when assessing hemorrhoids and related issues so you can focus on finding relief.

Hemorrhoids occur when veins in the anus or rectum swell, often due to straining to have bowel movement, with conditions such as constipation. Hemorrhoids are more common among people who:

  • Are pregnant
  • Have conditions such as cirrhosis
  • Sit for long periods of time

Hemorrhoids may be internal or external—and internal hemorrhoids can prolapse, or bulge out of the anus. The presence of hemorrhoids can be alarming, as well as unpleasant with symptoms such as itching and bleeding.

Getting Relief From Hemorrhoid Symptoms

Specialists at The GastroEnterology Center are able to diagnose and treat hemorrhoids and the resulting symptoms. Treatment for hemorrhoids may include:

  • Sitz baths or ice packs to relieve swelling or discomfort
  • Stool softeners to ease bowel movements as you recover
  • Surgery for severe cases
  • Topical creams or ointments

Our gastroenterology specialists can evaluate hemorrhoid symptoms and determine an appropriate treatment plan. Sometimes symptoms such as anal bleeding may be due to more serious issues than hemorrhoids and may warrant further evaluation.
